I don't usually like to post these kinds of musings or ramblings or whatever you like to call it, but something happened today that...made me think, to say the least.

Next Monday I'll be performing in a small showcase. It's gonna be just a few performers at a small restuarant with family and friends mostly as the audience. One of the songs I'm gonna be singing is "By the Sea" from "Sweeney Todd", with me as Mrs. Lovett and a friend of mine, as Mr. Todd.

If you watched the movie, or know the musical, you'd know that during the introduction part of the song, Mrs. Lovett turns to Mr. Todd and gives him small pecks on the cheeks as she sings. I personally think it is an essential part of the performance of the song because the music, the script, and directing all requires she does that. (I mean, come on, why would it even be in there if it weren't important XD)

However, I was asked to completely cut the cheek pecking part out because of what the audience might think of it, since, though my friend will be dressed up as a guy, she's still a girl.

I didn't like that cuz it's just ridiculous, so I negotiated, and ended up with a compromise in which I will peck her on the cheek once instead of after each phrase.

Now, before I say anything else, here's something else that happened.

Before I asked my friend to be my Mr. Todd, I was suggested to have this random guy I don't even know be my Mr. Todd. I refused because I don't want to peck some random guy I donno on the cheeks, you know XD It's not like he's a friend; I just know who he is, so it'd be weird and kinda awkward. I mean I'd do it, but since this showcase isn't going to be something huge and super professional, if I have another option to have someone I know better of course I'd pick that option.

Not to mention that guy probably doesn't have anything appropriate to wear for costumes anyways.

Now, here's the thing: When I was asked if I'd mind having him as my partner in the song, there was nothing that was said about "you can't peck him on the cheeks".

So, as you probably know by now, it's the fact that I'll be pecking my friend, who's a girl, on the cheeks that is the problem. @_@

I don't understand why this has to be made awkward, or that it'd be a problem cuz it's just a performance. We're not trying to make a statement; we're just gonna be Mrs. Lovett trying to tell Mr. Todd of this dream she had since she was a little girl of living by the ocean where it's sunny and pretty.

There was one reason mentioned for the decision that I don't quite understand, so I won't say anything about it.

Another reason mentioned was that there will be a slightly older generation at the show case, so they might not like it/find it offensive (that I'm pecking my Mr. Todd on the cheek, who's being played by a girl dressed up like a guy).

While, as a singer, I'm just gonna have to suck it up, deal with it, and perform anyways, as a person, it made me very sad that something like this would happen.

I mean, it's pretty obvious why the cheek-pecking would be deemed "inappropriate" for the showcase and cropped out. If anyone is still confused, well, it simply is cuz both my friend and I are girls @_@

It's just ridiculous to me cuz, come ON, it's a part of the song, and we're gonna be acting, and my friend's playing a guy. I mean, it's not rare that girls sometimes play guy parts in theater.

With that said, as a proud supporter of love, no matter the genders of two souls who happened to find each other, I personally felt quite offended that this, something so silly, would be brought into light in such a manner due to an assumed general unacceptance of, what, homosexual relationships? Like wtf =_=////

I honestly never thought about it that way. How's my friend and I acting parts in a song depicting a straight relationship offensive? Just cuz we're girls? What's wrong with girls pecking each other on the cheeks anyways @_@ Personally I'm just trying to stick to the music and the script and do my job as a performer.

I don't understand why same-sex relationships are offensive to begin with, and it's just ridiculous that it would be imposed onto something as irrevelent as performing a song and doing what is required for the song to be sung.

I mean, what kind of message does that send?

I know that same-sex relationships can be a sensitive topic, but if we keep on being tippy-toed and hush-hush about it, how's that gonna get us anywhere?

And it suddenly made me think about something else that I felt I had to address.

It's alarming how many people nowadays say "oh I support same-sex relationships" just cuz it's in fashion.

Yes, I said it; it's in fashion right now in modern society to be supportive of/accepting towards homosexiality/bisexuality/anything else that might be considered as "different", and it sickens me.

Because it's not "different" to be homosexual or bisexual; it is normal because it is love.

It sickens me cuz here you have a bunch of hypocritic ppl saying "oh we accept them for who they are" but turn around and say "oh you can't do this do that cuz it'll offend ppl"

like wtf -_-;;

make up your mind, seriously (though I donno why there needs to be even a mind to be made up in the first place. Love is for everyone because it is in everyone to love)

And the stupidest thing is, I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY THE HELL THAT EVEN HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH SINGING "BY THE SEA" FROM "SWEENEY TODD"!!!! It's a song. Why does this issue even have to be brought up in the first place? =[]=//



...Wow, I blabbed so much XD Sry about that ><;; I just had to get it off my chest.

Of course I'm still gonna do my best and stuff at the showcase and have a blast, but I'm just disheartened that this was even an issue, cuz frankly I don't see why ppl'd make such a big deal out of it. @.@

Anyways, if you read this far, you seriously deserve a big round of applause XD I think I should stop typing and go listen to some pretty music.

Which reminds me...CHECK OUT EDITH PIAF~~!!!! She's absolutely divine!! =^^= I can't believe I haven't found her earlier >33<

French is such a beautiful language; I wish I didn't stop taking classes
